User companies have been urged to make their views on the state of broadband in the UK known to the e-envoy, following the presentation of proposals to speed up provision of broadband access.

The Broadband Stakeholder Group presented a set of draft recommendations to e-commerce minister Douglas Alexander last Tuesday. The group called for a series of measures, including government funding, to bring down cost and drive up demand for high-speed Internet access.

The recommendations will form part of a detailed report within the Government's UK Online report in November.

Some present at the meeting felt that greater representation of user companies was needed. Businesses have expressed concern over the slow roll-out of a medium that could open up high-speed channels to customers and business partners.

A DTI spokesman said the Office of the E-Envoy is interested in getting as many user companies involved in the group as possible. E-mail your views to Broadband@e-envoy.gov.uk before 26 October.
