The right application of IT can help reduce costs in a difficult economic climate, according to 88% of the IT managers polled in this week's Computer Weekly/Harvey Nash Big Question survey.

Earlier this month, the UK manufacturing sector officially went into recession, following two quarters in succession with negative output.

Companies are now having to decide whether to scale back IT spending or redouble efforts on IT projects that could boost productivity and deliver cost savings.

IT managers said IT can help to reduce costs, but only if it is applied correctly.
