New CIO on the block: Sanjeev Kumar joins Adhunik as EVP and group CIO

SAP, business intelligence, disaster recovery, data center consolidation, business continuity planning and green IT on the new group CIO's roadmap.

Sanjeev Kumar, the former CIO of Polygenta Technologies has recently joined Kolkata-based Adhunik Group of companies as the executive vice president and group CIO. As part of this new CIO role, Kumar will be directly reporting to company's group managing director. He will also be part of the management team. "Along with my team, I intend to design and deploy IT strategy for the group," says Kumar.

Adhunik group of industries is into metals, power generation, steel, mining, auto forging and cement. The company has presence in India and abroad. When asked about the reason behind accepting this new CIO role, Kumar says that he saw tremendous potential in the company's growth plans. "The company believes in investing in new technologies, and sees IT as a business growth driver," says Kumar.

Kumar's new group CIO role at Adhunik will involve complete integration of all the technologies and interfaces across the group. As part of these new CIO responsibilities, he will also be responsible for building harmony as well as synergy among processes, technology and people within the group. While talking about leveraging existing and new technologies within the company, he says, "We want to maximize usage of IT, and see returns coming to business from IT investments. We also want to create an SAP kernel for the group that can be rolled out with speed and agility; an initiative which is aligned with organizational growth in the years to come. "

As part of his IT plans in Adhunik, Kumar intends to adopt business intelligence. As far as IT infrastructure is concerned, the group's new CIO is looking at building sustainable infrastructure with reliable security measures in place. Apart from that, unified communication, collaboration, knowledge management and workflow management feature on the new CIO's roadmap. In order to build a robust storage infrastructure, Kumar has plans for disaster recovery, data center consolidation, business continuity planning and green IT.
