Department store Debenhams has focused heavily on its multi-channel business in 2010, with sales from its online store Debenhams Direct up 88.4 per cent on last year.

Department store Debenhams has focused heavily on its multi-channel business in 2010, with sales from its online store Debenhams Direct up 88.4 per cent on last year.

Its results for the 12 months ending 28 August showed headline profit before tax and exceptional items for the year is expected to be around £150m, an increase of 20 per cent on last year.

Multi-channel development was one of the company's key strategic aims, which also included product strategy, space expansion and balance sheet management.

The main focus has been integrating in-store and online activities with the aim of providing flexibility and convenience for customers.

Chief executive Rob Templeman said, "There is much to be positive about in our business, including the benefits of higher own-bought sales, the acquisition of Magasin, the growing multi-channel business and the ongoing store refurbishment programme, together with the deleveraging of the business through strong cash generation and lower interest costs following refinancing."
