Barclays global CIO joins SAP to head up financial services

Don Trotta, a former CIO and technology head of several big banks, is taking responsibility for SAP's financial services division.

Trotta will be responsible for product strategy, development and overall market positioning activities for SAP in the banking and insurance industries globally.

Prior to SAP, he founded management advisory service Technology Directions.

Trotta became group chief information officer for Barclays in 2005, where he was responsible for overseeing a £1.6bn technology operations budget globally. Prior to that he was chief technology officer for Citibank North America and founded and chaired the Operations & Technology Council which governs Citibank's international technology and operations activities.

"With his deep, first-hand knowledge of large-scale business and technology demands in the industry globally, Don will greatly strengthen SAP's capability to deliver on our strategic commitment to our banking and insurance customers around the world," said Bob Stutz, corporate officer of SAP Group.

"Having his kind of industry leadership within SAP will enable us to accelerate the already substantial momentum we have built to date and help take us to the next level in the financial services industries."
