Snow prevents play at fibre rates meet

Communications minister Ed Vaizey’s meeting to explain to smaller telcos how make a return on their network investment when critics say that BT enjoys (in one appeal court judge’s opinion) a privileged position in the market was cancelled because of the long-awaited snow.

Many delegates were hoping to tell Ed frankly how the different business rates applied to their fibre and to BT’s skews the playing field. This is something the EU Digital Agenda boss, European Commission VP Neelie Kroes, warned regulators this week to be on the watch for, and to stamp out.

Ed’s mandarins say the meeting will still go ahead. Everyone is now flipping through their diaries, or asking Outook’s calendar to find a day that suits all.
