Transport for London appoints Steve Townsend to new combined CIO role

Kathleen Hall

Transport for London has appointed Steve Townsend, director of information management at London Underground, as CIO.

Steve Townsend will replace current Transport for London (TfL) CIO Ian Campbell. The move is part of restructuring programme at TfL and Townsend will combine his current role with that of TfL CIO. The changes will come into effect from January 2012, as part of TfL's drive to reduce the number of its directors by 25%.

A spokeswoman said Ian Campbell chose not to be considered for the combined role and will be leaving TfL.

"The principle tasks of the combined role will be to deliver the programme of services improvements and investments in information management and integrating the two information management teams," she said.
