The increased capacity means that users of the Idealstor 1 Bay can now support up to 750 Gb of native data while the Idealstor 8 Bay will hold up to 6tbytes. Ben Ginster, channel manager at Idealstor, said: “When we began selling this system in 2003, capacities maxed out at 250 Gb/bay and we only supported IDE or parallel discs. We have always prided ourselves on being able to support our existing clients even as capacities have increased and technology has evolved.
“Rather than lock our clients into a system that requires the ever-present upgrade like tape or proprietary disc systems, we offer our clients the ability to expand their capacity by simply buying new discs as needed.”
The Idealstor Backup Appliance comes configured with between one and eight removable drive bays. The Idealstor FrankeNAS, which combines storage and backup, is configured with up to 2tbytes of RAID and four removable drive bays.
They use industry standard 3.5 inch hard drives from manufactures such as Seagate and Hitachi.
Idealstor backup appliances come installed with Windows 2003 Server and act as host for a company’s backup software and as target for their backup data.
