Novell has confirmed it has laid off around 100 staff after reports of much higher numbers of lay-offs started circulating last week.
The software company has not said where the cuts will be made. Its main employment centres are located in Boston and Salt Lake City, although it also has UK and mainland Europe offices.
Novell employs about 4,200 people, so a cull of 100 would only represent a 2.3% cut in staff - much lower than other technology firms have been implementing in response to the recession.
Novell cancelled its long-running BrainShare user conference at the end of last year.
