Government ministers are going online in an attempt to communicate directly with university students, Toby Young, minister for students revealed on Wednesday.

The government will develop online discussions and a blog. The move is a response to the National Student Forum report, which said ministers need to listen and talk to students more.

The Department of Innovation, Universities and Skills will also ask UCAS to look at whether applicants can readily access key information online.

Lord Young said, "Many students are part of the 'Facebook' generation and we need to find new and more immediate ways of talking and listening to them as they talk to each other."
