YouTube is hoping to attract attention from Hollywood with its expansion to a widescreen video player.

The video-sharing website has increased the width of its page to 960 pixels following "a lot of feedback" from users.

The move will enable users to watch films on the site, and could induce studios to release them on it as well.

In a statement on its official blog, the company said, "Over the years we have heard a lot of feedback from you about what you would like to change about YouTube, and the size of our video player is always top of mind. That is why today we are excited to announce a bigger YouTube player."
