Microsoft discounts software for public sector bodies

Microsoft is making it easier for small, public-sector organisations to buy discounted software from resellers.

Redmond has launched the Open Licensing Programme for Government. Available from 1 October, small council bodies, GP practices, housing associations and other organisations could receive bigger discounts on their software.

The new deal is available to organisations holding more than five software licenses.

The initiative has been welcomed by resellers, who estimate they will be able to use the programme go after almost 50,000 UK small-scale, public-sector bodies with discounted software rates.
