Microsoft Windows head Bill Veghte has told analysts that the development of the next version of Windows remains on track.

Veghte told Wall Street analysts at Microsoft's annual analyst meeting this week that Windows 7 will ship by January 2010.

He said this would tie in with the company's previous promise to ship the product within three years of the introduction of Windows Vista.

He also promised that the next version of Internet Explorer - version 8 - will be released in final form later this year.
