Motorola unveils voice over IP-enabled barcode scanner

Antony Savvas

Motorola has unveiled a barcode scanner that doubles up as a wireless voice over IP phone.

The CA50 is designed to help reduce operational costs and increase worker productivity at retail, warehouse, healthcare and hospitality firms.

The CA50 allows employees to place or receive calls anywhere in the building.

The CA50 comes equipped with wireless Lan support, barcode scanning and information retrieval, and voice over internet protocol for integrated mobile-phone style voice communications.

In addition, interoperability with select telephony systems, like those from Avaya, enables the CA50 to perform as an extension of the desktop, so that incoming calls can be redirected to ensure that no call is missed or abandoned.
