Microsoft has announced the retirement of business division head Jeff Raikes, who will leave the company this September.

Microsoft said Raikes, 49, would remain until September to help ensure a smooth transition for his successor.

Redmond has announced Raikes will be replaced by Juniper Networks chief operating officer Stephen Elop, a Canadian aged 43.

Elop was formerly president of worldwide field operations at Adobe and CEO at Macromedia. Adobe took over Macromedia.

Elop will become president of the Microsoft Business Division at the end of this month, and will be shadowed by Raikes until September.
