Durham and Northumberland target savings through shared services

Northumberland and Durham county councils are targeting millions of pounds savings through a shared service built on Oracle's E-Business Suite.

The two North East councils will share a procurement and financial management software package.

Northumberland has been using the software since 2004 and will host the application for Durham.

Councillor Bill Brooks, leader of Northumberland County Council, said, "We have experienced the results for ourselves and are more than happy to work with Durham County Council so they too can get similar benefits for the council and its residents."

Durham County Council expects to save around £900,000 a year on its back office support operation once the project is fully implemented and save some of the capital costs relating to implementing the software system from scratch.
