Never-ending public concert celebrates mobile's 20th

The technology behind the mobile phone has just turned 20. Yes, it was 20 years ago that Porsche-driving yuppies welcomed in the mobile age to cries of "it will never catch on".

But as the price of technology decreased, more people found that life had been unbearable before the mobile phone.

Now in the UK there are more mobiles than people, according to Ofcom. Presumably our nation's youths have a mobile for communicating and a mobile for maintaining that electronic wall of sound that greets any user of the UK's public transport systems.

Downtime can only wonder at the joys to be heralded by the next 20 years of mobile phones.
