Fujitsu to ship continuous-use 200Gbyte hard drives

Fujitsu will start shipping 200Gbyte 2.5-inch hard-disc drives next month.

The new MHY2 BS Series drives are designed for 24-hour continuous operation, and are aimed at industrial and enterprise environments.

Fujitsu said the drives could be used in ATMs, point-of-sale and medical systems, in addition to offices and datacentres.

The supplier said the drives generated less heat and used less power than existing products.

The models in the series have a disk speed of 5,400 RPM and are equipped with a Serial ATA interface. They are also designed with features that minimise the effects of rotational vibration, which degrades drive performance.
