Hackers attempt to crack iPhone restrictions

Hackers are trying to break the code that ties Apple’s iPhone to the only network it supports from network operator AT&T.

If hackers are successful in their efforts, this would allow iPhone customers to use the phone on other networks, even in different countries.

Hacker Jon Lech Johansen has already produced code to activate the phone without having to register the device with AT&T. He has published an activation tool on his website.

“I’ve found a way to activate a brand new unactivated iPhone without giving any of your money or personal information to AT&T. The iPhone does not have phone capability, but the iPod and WiFi work,” he wrote on his blog.
