Royal & SunAlliance has nearly completed beta testing Cognos 8.2 Controller ready for a planned upgrade from version 2.3 early next year.
The insurer said the move to the upgraded version of the business intelligence application would enable it to improve the efficiency of its auditing processes.

Andrea Evans, manager of financial accounting and systems at Royal & SunAlliance, said, "We underwent a massive project to become Sarbanes-Oxley-compliant, but Cognos Controller 2.3 had not been giving us enough to have really efficient control."
The insurer had also been using a Lotus Notes application to monitor changes made to its financial system and keep a paper record, but Evans said the tight security model in Cognos 8.2 would remove the need to keep paper copies.
Cognos 8.2 Controller was launched at the start of May and is able to log every change made to the database.
The software is able to create reports by individual segments, such as customer, product or market. It also tracks the reporting process from data capture and processing to printed or electronic output, using colour coding to indicate submission status.
