Barracuda takes a bite at SME market with cut-price security appliance

Antony Savvas

Barracuda Networks has launched the cost-effective Barracuda Spam Firewall 100 appliance for SMEs.

Designed for organisations with less than 50 users, the appliance offers both anti-virus and anti-spam protection for £848. This comes with six months of signature updates, with users paying for updates after this period.

There are no per user license fees once the appliance is installed, said Barracuda.

Stephen Pao, vice-president of product management at Barracuda, said, “Botnets have changed the spam landscape and now all-sized firms require spam and virus protection at the gateway.”

Botnets are networks of compromised servers used by hackers to remotely spread spam and other malware.
