McData tool designed to lower storage costs

Cliff Saran

McData, a provider of data access products, has begun shipping its Virtualizer tool, the first in a family of products designed to lower capital expenditure in storage administration.

Virtualizer is a module in McData's Application Services Module platform, and is used in a high availability configuration to enable greater storage utilisation, according to the firm.

It supports heterogeneous provisioning, non-disruptive end of lease transitions, tiered-optimised storage, online capacity expansion, and local and remote replication.

Virtualizer is the first in a series of Advanced Fabric Services products delivered on McData's Application Services Module platform.

The platform enables users to plug-in standalone modules to add additional functionality to their storage fabrics quickly and non-disruptively, without any storage area network hardware replacement requirements.
