HSBC CIO shares secrets of keeping 28,000 staff on target

HSBC has revealed how it maintains the competitiveness of its IT operation to meet the bank’s ambitious annual cost saving targets.

Speaking at analyst firm Gartner’s ITxpo in Cannes last week, the bank’s chief information officer Ken Harvey took the stage with senior Gartner analysts Peter Sondergaard and Susan Landry to answer questions about how he runs a 28,000-strong IT organisation with an annual budget of £2.6bn. He said regular benchmarking and offshore software development had played a key role in meeting efficiency targets.
