Novell has appointed Tom Francese to head its global sales efforts.

Francese, president of Novell EMEA, has been appointed as executive vice president for worldwide sales.

A main task for Francese is to increase sales in Novell’s Linux-based server products, which still only form a relatively small portion of Novell’s sales, despite the firm drive to become a major Linux house.

Francese joined Novell in October 2005 after serving as vice president of IBM's software business in Europe.

He will now be responsible for Novell sales, channel and alliances activities worldwide, while also continuing as president of Novell EMEA.

Ron Hovsepian, Novell chief executive officer, said, “Tom's done a great job in getting our business in EMEA back on a growth track, and he's got the vision and skills to drive similar results for us globally.”
