Batch of patches due from Microsoft

Antony Savvas
Microsoft is to release a bumper crop of 12 security patches next Tuesday (13 June), including a number for critical threats.

The batch, as part of the company’s monthly scheduled security patching cycle, includes a fix for Microsoft Word. This is for a well publicised threat which is already targeting systems in the wild.

Microsoft said the updates will be detectable using the Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer and the Enterprise Scan Tool.

As well as a variety of Windows updates, there will also be two patches for Microsoft Office, including the one expected for Word, and one patch for Microsoft Exchange.

The Exchange patch is not deemed to be critical by Microsoft, but as “important”.

The company will also release three non-security, but high priority, patches for Windows on the same day.

There will also be an updated version of the Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool, available via the Windows Update, Microsoft Update, Windows Server Update Services and Download  Center update distribution services.
