Microsoft to offer greater BizTalk RFID support

Microsoft is to offer greater support for radio frequency identification (RFID) systems with its forthcoming BizTalk Server 2006 R2.

There will be interoperability with BizTalk Server 2006 R2 from a variety of RFID reader, tag, software and services suppliers.
Companies promising easier integration with the BizTalk platform include Alien Technology, Cactus Commerce, Intermec, Paxar, Sirit and Symbol Technologies, among others.

Microsoft is hoping that users currently adopting a wait-and-see approach to RFID technology will be more willing to adopt it using a familiar platform. And RFID suppliers believe greater integration with BizTalk will help boost their sales.

The BizTalk Server 2006 R2 platform is expected to be released by June 2007.

The platform will include RFID APIs, and a set of business rules and events management capabilities to enable RFID events to be more easily connected with back-end processes.

Pricing for BizTalk Server 2006 R2 has so far not been released.
