Google investigates fake home page

Google is investigating the appearance of a fake home Google site which carries advertising.

The fake site, which appears to have been created in Eastern Europe, has copied Google’s trademark insignia and livery and delivers search results in both English and other languages.

The results are apparently based on Google’s genuine search engine. The site also carries a link to the genuine Google home page and the “About Google” page.

Google said it was aware of the site’s appearance and was considering legal action to get it removed.

The genuine Google home page does not carry advertising.
