Microsoft chief software architect Bill Gates remains the richest American, according to Forbes’ latest top 400 list.
Forbes said that Gates was worth $51bn (£30bn). Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, no longer active at the company, was in third place and worth $22.5bn.
Other top technology names in the list included Dell’s Michael Dell, worth $18bn, and Larry Ellison at Oracle with $17bn. Microsoft chief executive officer Steve Ballmer came in 11th with $14bn.
Google founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page were both valued at $11bn, and eBay founder Pierre Omidyar was worth $10.2bn.
Hedge fund guru Warren Buffet was in second place with $40bn. The 400-name list collectively represented $1.13 trillion.
