Novell has released the latest version of its GroupWise e-mail and instant messaging server software, and has bundled a free copy of Novell’s SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 (SLES 9) to run it on.

GroupWise 7 also comes with enhanced support for Outlook XP and 2003, so Microsoft users have the option of combining Microsoft workstation collaboration software with Novell server software, as an alternative to relying on Microsoft Exchange.

While new GroupWise buyers get a free copy of SLES 9, they also have the option of running version 7 on other versions of Linux, Novell Netware and Windows 2003.

GroupWise 7 also supports PocketPC and Palm OS-based PDA synchronisation to deliver support for mobile workers.

RIM is also supporting the solution to enable its Blackberry mobile push e-mail devices to be supported by its BlackBerry Enterprise Server platform in conjunction with GroupWise 7.
