The software will bring benefits to firms by using keyword searching while also recognising the context of the information, said IBM.
The tool, WebSphere Information Integrator OmniFind Edition, uses the Unstructured Information Management Architecture (UIMA). This is a standard framework that can add text analytics to applications from many different vendors.
Manufacturer Whirlpool Corporation is one of the first customers to use the IBM platform, alongside software from Attensit, to carry out unstructured data analysis.
Separately, 16 suppliers have said they will support UIMA as a standard framework for search and text analysis of unstructured information. These include Cognos, Kana and SAS.
