Trillion dollar baby

IT spend will hit the trillion dollar jackpot by the end of 2009, worldwide research has found.

International analyst IDC predicts spending will rise at a compound annual growth rate of 5.9%, reaching $1.3tn (£717bn) by the end of 2009.

Government, manufacturing and banking will be the biggest tech spenders. Healthcare, and the communications and media industry will also have deep pockets and offer the highest growth potential. Investments in networks and storage will fuel total spend growth from $95bn this year to $128bn in 2009 in communication and media.
