European SMBs see benefits of mobility

European small- to medium-sized businesses (SMBs) are investing rapidly in mobile technology, according to a survey by Yankee Group.

The survey showed that SMBs’ investment in mobile data is expected to rise heavily from 2005, which is attributed to workers relying more on mobile email.

It found that the percentage of mobile workers in European small businesses continued to rise as mobile investments become a business priority. More than 50% of SMBs’ employees are classified as mobile workers, spending more than 20% of their time away from their primary workspace. This figure edged up from 48% in 2005.

SMBs in Europe rarely work with just one mobile operator: according to the survey, more than 40% of SMBs have relationships with more than one operator.

Yankee Group believes that mobile operators have excellent market opportunities and should offer customised, higher value services for mobile data and voice, and become trusted IT advisors on business mobility.
