Some 75% of IT managed services providers (MSPs) expect to expand their customer base amongst small- to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the next year, according to research by MSP Prefix IT.
The survey also showed that 63% of MSPs anticipate the emphasis shifting from infrastructure management to application management.
Prefix IT says that such results have driven its move to tailor its software for use by MSPs serving the SME community. PrefixNE V3 has been designed to allow MSPs to offer total PC management cost-effectively for SMEs with as few as five PCs, whilst also being fully scaleable to cater for organisations with employees in the thousands.
In the survey, 87% of respondents also said they connect remotely to their customers' networks via broadband, enabling them, says the company, to offer enhanced services through the use of products like PrefixMSP.
PrefixMSP allows MSPs to offer a range of services to multiple clients through a single console whilst ensuring data integrity is maintained. These services include preventing data loss through external storage devices via USB, Bluetooth and infrared, authoring and monitoring of PC policy, blocking the introduction of non-compliant or malicious software applications and ensuring software licence compliance.
"Smaller SMEs face one of the most difficult IT challenges; they must meet exactly the same PC management and compliance demands as large companies but with far fewer resources," says Graeme Pitts-Drake, managing director of Prefix IT.
"An awareness of their security and compliance responsibilities means that more and more SMEs are turning to MSPs to provide proactive IT support. However, often these service providers are small organisations themselves and need to work with software tools that are structured appropriately, are affordable and easy to implement and administer."
