Mobile email fills inboxes

Mobile email fills inboxes

Of the roughly 650 million corporate email inboxes worldwide, Datamonitor estimates 35-40% could be mobilised, according to industry analyst Datamonitor.

By 2009, personal information management (PIM) software—which organises often-used information such as names, addresses, appointments and so on—could surpass £345m.

Mobile operators are falling over themselves to create push email technology. Nokia, Vodafone and RIM were joined this week with a launch by US company Funambol, claiming the first open source solution.

‘Mobile email is on the verge of mass market adoption, and the number of mobilised email accounts will explode over the next three years,’ says Datamonitor technology analyst Alaa Owaineh.

`As differentiation becomes more difficult, pricing and partnerships will become key factors in achieving growth.’

A July Datamonitor report found that 50% of European companies already deploy mobile email products.
