IT support's compliance ignorance can cost dearly

  IT directors must stress the importance of Sarbanes-Oxley to IT support professionals.

 

Nearly 70% of the support staff interviewed by Axios Systems and the Help Desk Institute Europe had no idea about Sarbanes-Oxley or European legislation.

 

Only 22% were clued up on the legislation, even though IT plays a vital role in supporting the financial documentation needed for Sarbanes-Oxley and must be included in the audit process.

 

“The lack of awareness of Sarbanes-Oxley is not a big surprise, since this is American legislation and the respondents are in the UK,” said Alisa Symeonides, sales and marketing director at Axios Systems.

 

“However, massive penalties can lie in store for senior managers if they do not exercise proper governance of their companies.”
