Waste firm outsources IT to Digica

Waste management company Shanks Waste Management has awarded a £3.4m outsourcing deal to IT services provider Digica.

Digica will provide IT support, management and hosting services, looking after 500 desktop PCs, 70 Intel servers and 10 Sun Solaris servers. Many of the servers are likely to be relocated to Digica's data centre in Warrington. Shanks group operations in the UK include 21 landfill sites, 28 waste transfer stations, 24 waste collection depots and seven treatment plants.

Outsourcing routine IT operations would allow in-house IT staff to focus on business analysis and project management activities, the company said.
