The Queen’s birthday honours list included two IT-related awards.

John Higgins, the director general of Intellect, was awarded a CBE.

Higgins became director general of the CSSA (Computing Services and Software Association) in 1998 and then oversaw its merger with the FEI (Federation of Electronics Industry) to become Intellect’s first director general in 2002.

George Cox, who founded Butler Cox in 1977 and then sold the company to CSC in 1991, was knighted.

Cox later became managing director of Unisys UK and was appointed director general of the Institute of Directors in 1999.

Cox is currently chairman of the Design Council.
