Supermarket chain Somerfield has awarded a £3.3m contract to Torex Retail to implement a point of sale (POS) system and a back office system across 225 of its UK stores.

The Iridium PoS system and the Prism back office system will be rolled out to both convenience stores and petrol station sites. The rollout includes the stores Somerfield will be acquiring from Texaco and Fuelforce. Both Iridium POS and Prism will be integrated into the Somerfield head office.

The retailer has also selected Reichle and De-Massari (R&M) cabling systems as part of a major programme to renew its stores nationwide. The current plan is for 200 stores to be completed this year.  A key part of the programme is to equip the stores with a cabling infrastructure which is capable of meeting the Somerfield data requirements moving forward.
