Cisco Systems has launched the Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA) multi-function security product

Designed to stop attacks before they spread through the network, the Cisco ASA 5500 Series controls network and application traffic, delivers flexible virtual private network (VPN) connectivity, and is designed to reduce the overall deployment and operations costs and complexity associated with the level of security offered.

A key component of the recently announced Adaptive Threat Defence phase of the Cisco Self-Defending Network (SDN) security strategy, the Cisco ASA 5500 Series includes the Cisco ASA 5510, Cisco ASA 5520, and Cisco ASA 5540 products.

The family is designed to be used by both SMEs and large organisations. The ASA 5500 Series offers VPN services that includes remote access IPSec and SSL VPN capabilities, as well as quality of service IPSec services.

The Cisco ASA 5510 costs from £1,950, the ASA 5520 costs £4,450, and the ASA 5540 £9,450.
