Southampton adds three more years to Unisys tax and benefits deal

Anthony Savvas

Southampton city council has awarded Unisys a three-year IT contract extension to help it save £500,000 a year in running its taxation and benefits system.

Unisys will continue delivering technical enhancements and business process enhancements to the council’s council tax and housing benefits system until 2009.

New elements to the contract include updated technology for the prevention of fraud at source and innovative service delivery features, such as online claim forms for benefits.

Sue Collinson, Southampton city council business support and development manager, said, “Our main reason for awarding the extension to Unisys was the unique partnership that has developed between our two organisations.

"The contract we have with Unisys actively creates new processes to improve citizen experience, which helps us meet new Government efficiency guidelines on improving quality of service,” she said.
