Yahoo releases personal search tool

Antony Savvas

Yahoo has launched the My Web beta to allow users to store, manage, retrieve and share their past searches from the Yahoo search engine.

Yahoo’s move comes after rival Google launched a similar personal search tool.

My Web has been created to encourage users to take advantage of the Yahoo portal of services more often. More portal visits generate greater advertising revenue for Yahoo, although there is no new advertising linked to using My Web.

URLs of pages saved in My Web can be sent to others by e-mail or Yahoo instant messaging, and pages can be organised and shared in Yahoo’s new Yahoo 360 social network, once it is out of beta.

Yahoo 360, which allows users to share pictures, music and other data, is expected to be generally available soon, and My Web will follow later this year.
