Novell loses CTO ahead of key user conference

Novell lost its chief technical officer just before the start of this week’s annual Novell Brainshare user conference.

Novell announced the departure of CTO Alan Nugent to staff last week. Nugent’s departure comes after Novell vice-chairman and number two Chris Stone left the company last November.

Nugent plans to join another unnamed IT company. Stone left after disagreeing with Novell chief executive officer Jack Messman over company strategy.

Novell has just launched its Novell Open Enterprise Server, which combines Novell’s NetWare network operating software with the company’s SuSE Linux Enterprise Server software.

Novell said no replacement has so far been found for Nugent. Brainshare is taking place in Salt Lake City until 25 March.
