Ask Jeeves about its acquisition

Antony Savvas

Online information provider Ask Jeeves could shortly be acquired by online conglomerate IAC/InterActiveCorp.

IAC already owns the likes of Expedia, Ticketmaster, Home Shopping Network, Match.com and CitySearch, and it wants Ask Jeeves to take a slice of the growing search engine advertising market.

Search engines Yahoo and Google are rolling out a number of services to tempt more advertisers and IAC sees their smaller rival Ask Jeeves as an easy way into the developing market.

The two sides are believed to be negotiating a deal but neither company has made any comment on the talks.

IAC is believed to value Ask Jeeves at around $1.1bn (£570m).
