Northern Ireland Housing Executive (NIHE), the UK’s largest housing authority, has awarded BT an 11-year contract worth £30m.

Under the contract BT will implement and support a new IT infrastructure for the NIHE. All existing systems will move to a service managed BT’s offices in Belfast. BT will also replace core business applications including the systems for grants and housing management.

Paddy McIntyre, NIHE’s chief executive said, "This strategic partnership is aimed at enhancing NIHE’s role as a provider of social housing by being more accessible and more closely aligned to the communities and the people it serves."

NIHE has an annual budget in excess of £500m and a rental income of £265.5m from 100,000 properties. It pays £359m in housing benefit and approves nearly 10,000 private sector home improvement grants annually.
