EMC recovery suites aid data compliance

Arif Mohamed
EMC has released two software recovery management suites designed to help organisations comply with data retention and access requirements and accomplish what has been termed information lifecycle management (ILM).

The products result from EMC's acquisition of Dantz last October and Legato 12 months earlier.

EMC Legato Networker 7.2 is a back-up and recovery suite that will help large firms manage data in central datacentres, remote offices and workgroups, without needing to re-architect their storage infrastructure, said EMC.

Version 7.2 has a Windows-style interface and features configuration wizards, policy-based back-up and supports Documentum, NDMP Backup to Disk, and Powersnap (a virtual view of a file system at a point in time) for third-party storage systems. It also offers hot back-up for Microsoft SQL and Exchange running under VMWare.

EMC Dantz Retrospect 7 is aimed at small to medium-sized enterprises and branch offices. It offers disc-to-disc-to-tape back-up and support for Windows servers, Red Hat, SuSE, Solaris, Mac OS X, Microsoft Exchange and SQL. It can also restore data from a given point in time, from tape, disc or optical media.
