Hewlett-Packard will use this week's Software Universe conference in Madrid to announce a revamp of its Openview enterprise systems management software.

The conference focus will be on HP's vision of IT as a business service and its development of enterprise products that link systems management with the general business.

Among the products due to be launched is Service Level Manager, an interactive tool for creating service levels. HP is also expected to introduce Openview Service Desk 5.0 and Openview Service Level Manager, and will demonstrate the first products to come out of its recent Consera and Novadigm acquisitions.

In a recent paper looking into HP's product strategy, Meta Group reported that HP's Openview product suite for enterprise management was undergoing a rapid evolution as a result of the company's aggressive acquisition strategy.

This would allow HP to offer some of the functionality already available on rival products, said Meta.
