Richard Sykes, former chairman of outsourcing advisory firm Morgan Chambers and newly elected head of the Intellect outsourcing special interest group, said organisations with a track record in managing large outsourcing deals could give a "critical analysis" of the outsourcing industry's performance.
Such a move would benefit users and suppliers, he added.
"Companies such as BP have a lot of experience in outsourcing and have seen what does and does not work," said Sykes.
"If we encourage a small group of companies to sit down and share their experiences, it would be a small contribution to the learning curve of suppliers who tend to over-commit and under-deliver.
"There is room for improvement on both sides."
