Socitm builds international IT links

James Rogers
Public sector IT managers' group the Society of IT Management (Socitm) aims to forge closer links with its international counterparts to share best practice and help get better deals from suppliers for UK councils.

Officials at Socitm were due to meet representatives of local authority associations from the US, Holland, Sweden and New Zealand at its annual conference, which began last weekend.

Socitm's international links have already helped to deliver savings to UK local government, according to the group's international secretary Bob Griffith. Commenting on a software licensing deal with Oracle signed earlier this year, Griffith said, "We looked at the terms the US government was getting and this formed the basis for the deal signed in the UK."

Socitm is to set up a body called Linked Organisations in Local Authorities to help local government organisations share best practice in e-government.
