After a beta testing process which has involved more than 1,500 CA customers, the new version of BrightStor ARCserver Backup includes an enhanced user interface, DVD-RW support, a scheduling feature and the ability to back up to disk.
The new software could be installed and a backup configured and run in less than 20 minutes by 80% of the testers recruited, according to David Liff, vice-president of product management at CA.
"We recruited testers of all skill types to test the product," said Liff. "On average, users were able to install the software and run a backup within 20 minutes.
The new product allows storage administrators to select which network interface card to use for a backup. This will prevent a backup or restore from consuming bandwidth for regular storage traffic, explained Liff.
Additionally, Version 9 allows backup to disk, support for DVD-RW, and a new scheduling feature.
This latest version of BrightStor ARCserver Backup currently runs only with the Windows operating system. However, Liff explained that a version will be ready for the NetWare OS within a month and a Linux version will follow a month after. The Windows version is available immediately.
