Demand for permanent IT staff falls again

Demand for permanent IT staff has fallen markedly for the third month running, according to the Recruitment and Employment Confederation's Report on Jobs, writes Nathalie Towner.

Temporary and contract staff are faring even worse, with demand falling for the 19th month running in September. Last month the rate of decline in demand for staff was the fastest since January. The data shows that across all industry sectors demand for staff fell most dramatically at the upper end of the labour market.

Despite surveys from other sources suggesting there is still a lack of skills in key technology areas, in the Recruitment and Employment Confederation's study no skills were reported to be in short supply in the temporary or permanent sectors.
